Nationals Fall Short, 4-3, at Virginia Beach
|
Starting pitcher Daryl Benstead pitched well enough to help the Virginia Beach Whales beat the Ottawa Nationals by the score of 4-3. Eliseo Fontirroig nailed down his 11th save. The Whales, at 33-24, lead by one game in their division.
Woody Maxwell, who is tied for 4th in the SAA with a .551 slugging percentage, chipped in for Virginia Beach with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the third baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Benstead said.
