Whales Win 4-3 Walk-Off
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis got a sterling performance from first baseman Franck Morel, but the Whales still prevailed, 4-3. Morel was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Virginia Beach reliever Patrick Le Gall got the win, raising his record to 5-1. Jerry Reid was tagged with the loss. The third-place Whales have won 4 consecutive games.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 3-3, right fielder Neung-uk Yi won it for Virginia Beach. With a runner on 3rd, Yi hit a full count fastball from Jerry Reid for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 4-3 win.
"We're scuffling right now," said losing manager Randy Stevens.
