Blimps Top Fur Traders Behind Merlo, 5-0
|
The Akron Blimps topped the Tacoma Fur Traders, 5-0, in USSL Double A action at Goodyear Hanger Dome. The player of the game was Akron pitcher Javier Merlo. The Blimps bumped their record to 25-20 with this latest triumph.
Merlo's performance can only be described as masterful. He notched 8 strikeouts in 8.1 innings while allowing 4 hits. Merlo, who is tied for 3rd in the SAA with a 2.24 ERA, goes to 5-2 on the year with 61 strikeouts.
"I liked his command," said Akron manager Jared Gilbert. "Javier was throwing strikes."
