Virginia Beach Whales starter Ronald Fritz turned in an exceptional performance against the Tacoma Fur Traders at Ballpark of Tacoma, resulting in a Virginia Beach win, 4-2. Eliseo Fontirroig was credited with the save for Virginia Beach, his 5th of the season. The Whales bumped their record to 21-20 with this latest triumph.

Woody Maxwell put Virginia Beach in front, 4-0, when he took Félix Benítez downtown. His 2-run home run came with no one out in the top of the sixth. It was his 15th home run of the season.

Maxwell attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
