Guinea Pigs Fall Short at Akron
|
Gwinnett got a terrific performance from catcher Raffaello Dichio, but it wasn't enough to beat the Akron Blimps. Akron won the Goodyear Hanger Dome contest, 6-5. Dichio was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Akron goes to 22-18, Gwinnett to 23-17.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Ju-ho Ko came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Gwinnett pitcher Gaberiela Tatafu, he hit a 2-2 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Akron on top, 6-5.
In postgame comments, Ko told the Akron News: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
