Fans who came to Atoms Field watched the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and the Bethesda Atoms fight to the finish.

Bethesda right fielder Pepe Rodríguez was sensational. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Squirrel Hill beat the Atoms, 4-3. Rodríguez was named the player of the game despite the loss. Squirrel Hill reliever Jerry Reid picked up the win to move to 2-0. Pete Miller suffered the loss. Robert Erickson was credited with the save for Squirrel Hill, his 7th of the season.

Félix Pacheco put Squirrel Hill in front, 3-0, when he took Pete Miller downtown. His 2-run home run came with one out in the top of the third. It was his 7th home run of the season.

"We found a way to get it done," Pacheco said.

With the win over Bethesda, the Pierogis improved to 16-19.
