Highlanders Edge Love Boats, 5-4
|
The Lake Minnetonka Love Boats got a superb performance from third baseman Jose Asuncion. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Asheville. The Highlanders won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Asuncion was named the player of the game. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Kamiel Wabeke converted his 19th save in 24 tries. The 8th-place Highlanders lifted their record to 50-49.
In the bottom of the fifth, Asheville second baseman Guillermo Alemán had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Alemán stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 2-0, Asheville. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Asheville manager William Franklin.
