Miners Turn Back Asheville, 4-2
|
Marquette Miners starter Jerry Cherry turned in an exceptional performance against the Asheville Highlanders at Marquette Stadium, resulting in a Marquette win, 4-2. Cherry went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 8-4. The 4th-place Miners have won 5 in a row.
The Miners got a big at-bat from right fielder Héctor Solís. For the game, Solís went 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 10th double of the season gave Marquette a 4-1 lead.
