Highlanders Win in Extras
|
The Richland Rails got a superb performance from pitcher Andy Burns. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Asheville. The Highlanders won the game, 2-1. In spite of the loss, Burns was named the player of the game. He threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball. The Highlanders now have a record of 47-43 with the win over Richland.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Guillermo Alemán to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Highlanders on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"This kind of game is tough on the heart," said winning manager William Franklin.
