Rails Down Love Boats, 6-3
|
The Richland Rails took Lake Minnetonka pitcher Jean Mercier's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Heron Field. The final score had Richland getting past the Love Boats, 6-3. Mercier went 5.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 4. Richland reliever William Burkett picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Travis Iturburua was saddled with the loss. Gary Podell converted his 5th save in 6 tries.
Richland used the bat of Jon Walker to get the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Rails ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Walker told the Richland Gazette.
Richland, now 44-36, holds second place in the Menard's AA.
