Walker Excels, But Highlanders Win
|
Richland got a terrific performance from designated hitter Jon Walker, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Highlanders. Asheville won the Asheville Park contest, 10-9. Walker was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 5. Ramón Rodríguez, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 3.2 innings. Kamiel Wabeke recorded the save for Asheville, his 11th of the season.
Jesús Bonilla had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the bottom of the sixth for the Highlanders. Coming up with the bases loaded and Asheville trailing 8-7, he hit a 2-run double.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Richland manager Fernando Mendoza. "The effort was great."
Richland's current losing streak is now 4 games.
