Fox 'Lights Out' in Northern Virginia Win
|
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Atlantica, knocking off the Long Island Lighthouse, 1-0. Starting pitcher Dusty Fox, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Nick Cole, credited with the save, is now 3 for 3 in save opportunities. At 35-43, the Rainbow Mermaids find themselves in 7th place in the Premier League.
Fox, a native of Ft. Worth, Texas, was dealing all game. He kept Long Island hitters off-balance, while giving the Rainbow Mermaids 7.1 quality innings. Fox threw 97 pitches, allowing 1 hit and striking out 10.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Long Island manager Michael Esposito.
