Rails Nip Blue Sox, 4-3
|
The Irving Blue Sox got a sterling performance from center fielder Emílio Pueblo, but the Rails still prevailed, 4-3. Pueblo was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Dave Stafford earned the win to go to 1-2. He allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits, with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Miguel Bruno, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save.
The Rails used some clutch hitting to beat the Blue Sox, a good example being the at-bat of Jon Walker in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, Walker gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he hit a 2-run home run.
"I was a little disappointed," said Irving manager Dave Lee. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
After today's action, Richland sits at 30-22, while Irving falls to 24-28.
