Rails Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Loons
|
It was a fun time at Rails Ballpark, where the Minnesota Loons and Richland Rails tangled.
The Richland Rails picked up a win at Rails Ballpark, knocking off the Minnesota Loons, 4-2. Starting pitcher Tim Smith, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The win was Stan Rose's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Steve Smith took the loss for Minnesota. Miguel Bruno earned the save for Richland, his 9th of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Tony Moore came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Steve Smith, he hit a 0-1 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Richland on top, 3-2.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Richland manager Fernando Mendoza.
The 9th-place Loons have lost 6 straight games.
