The Marquette Miners and Richland Rails were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at Marquette Stadium.
The Richland Rails defeated the Marquette Miners, 9-4, at Marquette Stadium today. Leading the charge for Richland was shortstop Javier Botín. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Andy Burns, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 2-1.
Richland used the timely hitting of Greg Ge to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put the Rails on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Ge told the Richland Gazette. "But we take nothing for granted."
The win brings the Rails to 8-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
