The Yakima Hops got a stellar performance from pitcher Stanford Thompson, who handcuffed the Richland offense en route to a 10-0 win at Hops Park. The winning pitcher was Thompson, now 1-1. He tossed 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. The Hops, now 9-3, have been on fire in the early going.
One pivotal at-bat came in the top of the second with no one out. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Rails trailing 2-0, Stanford Thompson needed to make a quality pitch. He threw a 2-2 changeup to retire Glenn Seals, who hit into a double play.
