The Yakima Hops defeated the Billings Polar Bears, 6-5. Earning player of the game honors was third baseman Jesse Winters, who was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. Stewart Telfer was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Foster McCoy got credit for the save for Yakima. It was his 2nd of the year.
Millard Morris chipped in for Yakima, stroking a crucial single in the top of the fourth inning. For the game, the second baseman was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Billings manager Marvin Nelson. "But we decided not to take it."
The Hops, now 5-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
