Starting pitcher Ben Gillespie pitched well enough to help the Irving Blue Sox beat the Minnesota Loons by the score of 8-4. Irving reliever Carlos Santos picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Voitto Niskakangas absorbed the loss. With the win, Irving improves its record to 2-3.

Irving took a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, third baseman Zak Makepeace hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Gillespie. "Successful pitchers do it."
