Stingers Best Oaks in Pitching Duel
|
Toledo and Oakland played a hard-fought contest at Oakland Coliseum.
The Oakland Oaks got a superb performance from pitcher Mark Walker, but the Toledo Stingers still won the game, 2-1. Walker was named the player of the game despite the loss. He came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters . Adam Durango got credit for the save for Toledo. It was his 6th of the year.
The Stingers grabbed the lead in the top of the second. With no one out, Lester Threlfall, who finished 4th in the 3L in on-base percentage with .394 last year, hit a solo home run off Broderick Langmead, putting Toledo in front, 2-0. For Threlfall, it was his 16th home run of the season.
Threlfall said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
Toledo is now 68-26, 9½ games up in the Third League.
