Smythe on Fire, 6-for-7 Against Las Vegas
|
Tom Smythe was at the head of a Nova Scotia Leviathan hit parade today at The Strip. The 28-year-old went to the plate 7 times and came away with 6 hits, but it was the Las Vegas Flamingos that marched off with the 8-7 win.
"We didn't have it today," griped Leviathan skipper Andrew Powell following the game. "Tom did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching."
Smythe did more than fine, dominating the Flamingos at the plate during his record-making 6-for-7 performance.
"Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging left fielder told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."
Tom Smythe doubled in the 2nd, doubled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, struck out in the 8th, singled in the 11th and singled in the 13th.
Smythe is hitting .355 for the season with 13 home runs, 48 RBIs and 49 runs scored. He has 82 hits in 231 at-bats and played in 56 games.
