Stingers Subdue Northern Lions BC, 6-3
|
Thunder Bay got a terrific performance from shortstop Álex Chávez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toledo Stingers. Toledo won the Great Northern Field contest, 6-3. Chávez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. An Jang-Yop was the winning pitcher. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto was called on to finish, recording his 20th save.
Toledo used the timely hitting of Grover Barbaran to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Stingers on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Toledo manager TJ Reynolds.
Toledo improves to 49-18 with the win. They lead their division by 5 games.
