Stingers Edge Piranhas, 2-1
|
The Toledo Stingers did just enough to sneak past the Panama City Piranhas, 2-1, at The Tank. Toledo pitcher Craig Fitzgerald earned player of the game honors. Toledo reliever Stu Riley picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Marvin Sidebottom was saddled with the loss. The first-place Stingers have won 9 straight.
Toledo used the timely hitting of Lester Threlfall to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 16th inning to put the Stingers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but he made it count.
"To not win that game stings a little bit," said Panama City manager Brian Talamante.
