Squirrel Monkeys Win Thriller, 6-5
|
The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys faced a tough opponent in Florida pitcher John Penton, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Zoo in Syracuse by a final score of 6-5. Penton went 7.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Syracuse is now 35-15, 6½ games up in the Silver AAA.
The Squirrel Monkeys were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Bill Stanton turned a 1-1 fastball from Millard Whipp into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Syracuse a thrilling 6-5 win.
"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Stanton said.
