Battery Need Extra Frames to Get Past Cattlemen
|
Ft. Worth got a terrific performance from pitcher Gustavo Tobías, but it wasn't enough to beat the Charleston Battery. Charleston won the Charleston Armory contest, 3-2. Tobías was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The Battery raised their record to 25-32.
Charleston won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With two outs and WyDale Curry on the mound for Ft. Worth, third baseman Melvin Thomas hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Battery fans to their feet.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Thomas told the Charleston Daily News.
