Whales Saddle Guinea Pigs with 9-6 Loss
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Paul Pitts, the Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 9-6. Pitts was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Whales. Dan Carter, credited with the win, is now 2-2. He allowed 6 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. The Whales now have a record of 11-12.

Pitts contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Virginia Beach in the top of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Pitts took a fastball from Gaberiela Tatafu and stroked the home run to center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Whales to leap in front, 2-1.

"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Pitts told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
