The Virginia Beach Whales downed the Casper Ghosts, 7-5, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Woody Maxwell led the way, going 1-for-2 for Virginia Beach. Domingo Jones picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-2. Darrell Bannatyne was tagged with the loss. António Arrojo earned the save, his 1st.
Had João Lourenço not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Lourenço hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Whales.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Lourenço told the Virginia Beach News.
The Ghosts fall to 6-13 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2043 season.
