Atoms Come Back Late, Nip Blimps
|
Akron got a terrific performance from pitcher Leonardo Sánchez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bethesda Atoms. Bethesda won the Goodyear Hanger Dome contest, 4-3. Sánchez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball. Robert Karabanov, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The win leaves Bethesda with a record of 4-3.
Bethesda used the bat of Manny Medina to get the win. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Atoms ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it did its damage.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Medina said.
