The Santa Barbara Golden Cranes got a sterling performance from pitcher Robin Colcord, but the Dogfish Head still prevailed, 6-3. Colcord was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The winner was Patrick Nicolas in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ron Mingo took the loss. Ryan Long earned the save, his 2nd, for the Dogfish Head.
Had Tikaroa Hakapuna not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hakapuna hit a 2-run double. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Dogfish Head.
Hakapuna called the win "a collective effort."
The Dogfish Head, now 4-1, have played some good baseball in the early going.
