Lake Monsters Get One-Run Win at Austin
|
The 2043 season did not get off to quite the start the Austin Black Mambas had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Mamba Park. The final score was 3-2. Center Fielder Takeshi Kovacs was named player of the game for Vermont. Vermont reliever Jason Huggins picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Glenn Douglas was collared with the loss.
Vermont used the timely hitting of Robert Shannon to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Vermont manager Juan Rodríguez said.
