Stingers Bang Out 7-2 Win Versus Nova Scotia
|
The Toledo Stingers beat the Nova Scotia Leviathan, 7-2, at Pacesetter Park. The Stingers got a fine performance from catcher Anselmo Berneu, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Craig Fitzgerald earned the win for Toledo. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. With the loss, Nova Scotia drops to 7-5.
Berneu contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Toledo in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Berneu took a fastball from Elisheba Petershwim and stroked the home run to right. His 3rd home run of the season allowed the Stingers to leap in front, 4-2.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Berneu. "And not try to do too much."
