League Punishes Pair for Fighting Sunday, August 10th, 2042 Yesterday at Goodyear Hanger Dome Leonardo Sánchez and Phil Day got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Akron Blimps and Mercer Island Screaming Eagles. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Sánchez will have to sit out 4 while Day would be given a 8-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season Sánchez has 5 wins and 6 losses and a 5.50 ERA. So far in 15 appearances this season, Day has recorded 7 wins and sustained 1 loss. He has pitched 92.1 innings, yielded 83 hits, fanned 96 and has a 3.31 ERA. |
