Mears Jacks 3 into the Stands
Tuesday, August 19th, 2042
Mark Mears went on an explosive hitting spree against the Bethesda Atoms at Asheville Park today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Asheville Highlanders to the 12-11 win.
The third baseman finished 3-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 6 runs batted in.
"It was just one of those days," Mears said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball."
Bethesda skipper Bobby Buck said Mears was "locked-in."
"We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him."
Mark Mears hit a two-run home run off Wilson Molina in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off Wilson Molina in the 5th, walked in the 7th, flied out in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off Eric O'Slattery in the 11th.
For the year Mears is batting .237 with 54 hits and 14 home runs. He has scored 38 times and driven in 47.
