Atlantic City Breaks Through for First Win in SL AA Championship; Now Trails 2-1
|
The Atlantic City Sonics have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Virginia Beach Whales, winning 6-4 at Virginia Beach Grounds today. Sonics second baseman Luis Ortíz was named player of the game after he went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. The win cuts the deficit facing the Sonics to 2-1 in the best-of-5 SL AA Championship.
Atlantic City used the timely hitting of Luis Rodríguez to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Sonics on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"It's a big deal," Rodríguez said of the win. "If we had gone to 0-3, we're pretty much out of it."
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Virginia Beach Grounds in Virginia Beach. The scheduled starters for the game are Gaberiela Tatafu for the Atlantic City Sonics and Daryl Benstead for the the Virginia Beach Whales.
