When he got to Northwest Territory, Volmer Aalbers was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the 3L R Championship.

The 19-year-old rookie left-hander shut out the visiting Watford City Trash Pandas 1-0 in a remarkable performance at Beaver Town today. With the win, the Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 3L R Championship.

In his 90-pitch effort, Aalbers allowed no earned runs on 1 hit over 8 innings. He walked 0 and struck out 7.

"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Aalbers. "Successful pitchers do it."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Ft. Wayne. The scheduled starters for the game are Wayne Chambers for the Watford City Trash Pandas and Jong-beom Park for the the Northwest Territory Beavers.
