Baby Blues, Interns Play 19 to Settle Game 1, Quebec City Now Leads Series 1-0
|
As the Quebec City Baby Blues and Capital Hill Interns battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.
Young Quebec City center fielder Ronald Dacanay, 18, took player of the game honors at Alouettes Ballpark today with a strong hitting performance in the 19-inning marathon. Dacanay went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice during the 8-7 Quebec City win over the Interns. The win gives the Baby Blues a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 SL R Championship.
Manuel Valle had a nice at-bat for the Baby Blues with two out in the top of the 14th. With runners on 1st and 2nd, the third baseman drew a walk, which would prove important in the Quebec City win.
"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Quebec City field general Kyle Myers.
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Tadamichi Chikafuji for Quebec City and Gani Palu-ay for Capital Hill.
