Hawks Win, Move to Within 1 Game of Round 2
|
Levittown Blue Dragons manager Félix Cruz took a gamble on 21-year-old starter Francisco Díaz. It paid off, but, unfortunately for the Blue Dragons, little else did.
Despite getting a poised performance from the young right-hander, the Blue Dragons lost 4-3 to the Laredo Hawks at The Cave at Levittown today. With the win, Laredo took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 SL A Championship.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher João Lourenço came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Levittown pitcher Yong-chik Pak, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Laredo on top, 4-3.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Levittown skipper Félix Cruz.
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday. The scheduled starters for the game are César Cruz for the Levittown Blue Dragons and Dan Carter for the the Laredo Hawks.
