The Portland Evergreens moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Panama City Piranhas on the road at The Tank by a score of 8-6. Evergreens third baseman Tetsu Matsumoto was named player of the game after he was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win gives the Evergreens a - advantage in the best-of- Round 1.
In the top of the first, Matsumoto pounced on a 2-1 fastball from Davis Sawyer and hit a 2-run home run. It put Portland on top, 2-0.
Piranhas manager Brian Talamante did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the United States Premier League Championship."
