Fighting Imps Topple Eclipse with Late Rally
|
The Fighting Imps faced a stiff challenge from Northville pitcher John Sparks, but persevered to claim a win at Imps Park. The final score was 6-3. Sparks went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Ithaca reliever Jesús Solís was credited with the win, to go to 1-4. Vasile Alexandrescu took the loss for Northville. Even with the win, the Fighting Imps have a dismal 27-68 record.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Aloysius Szymanski came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Northville pitcher Vasile Alexandrescu, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Ithaca on top, 4-3.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Ithaca manager Lou Boone.
