Valley View Cougars starter Mike Wheeler turned in a top-notch performance against the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople at Hillandale Grounds. The result was a win for the Cougars, 2-1. Ray Armstrong converted his 16th save in 20 tries. Valley View has now won 4 straight, while the Snowpeople have lost 3 in a row.
The Snowpeople had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Cougars going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old center fielder Markus Anderson came to the plate. Anderson hit a solo home run on a first pitch cutter from Ellesmere Island hurler Rob O'Brien. It was Anderson's 11th home run of the year.
"The vibe's good," said Valley View manager Tony Newell. "We've got to keep it going."
