Shockers Deal Beavers Painful Loss
The Ballard Beavers got a sterling performance from pitcher Darryl Bailey, but the Shockers still prevailed, 4-3. Bailey was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings allowing 1 run. The winner was Surprise reliever Mark Adams, now 1-0. The loser was William Stevens. With the loss, Ballard drops to 1-1.

Late in the game, left fielder Hal Clay had a big at-bat for Surprise. In the bottom of the 11th, he hit a run-scoring single off William Stevens. The play gave the Shockers a 4-3 lead.
