Warheads Win at Ellesmere Island, 8-4
|
The Amarillo Warheads knocked off the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 8-4, at The Igloo. Tomas Venema, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Amarillo won. The second baseman went 3-5 with a triple, 2 doubles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jérôme Fleury got the win, improving to 2-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Amarillo is now 28-20.
With Amarillo leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Venema came up to bat against Ellesmere Island pitcher Bennett Stone. Venema hit a splitter to center for a 2-run double. His 4th double of the season put the Warheads on top, 4-0.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Venema.
