Cougars Prevail, 2-1, Over Montgomery
|
The Valley View Cougars picked up a win at Hillandale Grounds, knocking off the Montgomery Biscuits, 2-1. Starting pitcher Don Lucas was an essential part of his team's success. Lucas got the win, improving to 3-4. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Lucas allowed 1 earned run. Ray Armstrong sewed up the save, his 6th.
Had Jay Harris not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Harris hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Cougars.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Harris said.
Valley View, at 18-23, sits in 8th place in the Silver R.
