Derek Leyva made an impact in the 6-5 Redwood win over Long Island. Leyva went 3-3 with 3 doubles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. Redwood reliever Rubén Sánchez picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Jimmy McDonald was collared with the loss. David Guzmán finished to wrap up his 2nd save.

Redwood used the timely hitting of José Medina to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rhinos on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Medina. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

The 4th-place Rhinos have won 7 consecutive games.
