Centennial Come Up Short at Redwood

Fort Knox got a terrific performance from catcher I-tsing Hsiao, but it wasn't enough to beat the Redwood Rhinos. Redwood won the The Zoo contest, 7-6. Hsiao was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Redwood reliever Ramon Roodenburg picked up the win to move to 1-1. Mike Vanderbilt suffered the loss. The win pushes Redwood to a record of 10-9.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Roy MacDonald came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Fort Knox pitcher Mike Vanderbilt, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Redwood on top, 6-5.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Rhinos manager Frank Bass. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
