Crawdads Squelch Chiefs Offense in Shutout Win
|
Caldwell got a terrific performance from pitcher Gregg Booth, but it wasn't enough to beat the Cut Off Crawdads. Cut Off won the Pipers Ballpark contest, 3-0. Booth was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Bhu Damocles earned the win for Cut Off. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on 5 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 2-4. The 6th-place Crawdads improved to 32-27.
Cut Off used the timely hitting of José Leyva to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the second inning to put the Crawdads on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Cut Off manager Pancho Salaedo.
