Godfathers Score Late to Upend Torch, 6-4
|
The Pontiac Godfathers overcame a good performance by Mancelona designated hitter Rubén Jusino to knock off Mancelona, 6-4, at Pontiac Copperdome. Jusino went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Pontiac reliever Reynaldo Benítez picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Hirokazu Morita shouldered the loss. Tony Wilson finished the game for Pontiac and earned his 10th save.
Had Gary Bly not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Bly hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Godfathers.
In postgame comments to the Pontiac Daily, Bly said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Pontiac is 28-47 and Mancelona, with the loss, 37-38.
