Torch Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Godfathers
|
The Mancelona Torch topped the Pontiac Godfathers, 5-2, in USSL Single A action at Pontiac Copperdome. The player of the game was Mancelona pitcher and Willemstad, Curaçao native Otton Asmus. Asmus, the winner, moves to 5-4. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 11 and giving up 1 walk. John Savage earned the save for Mancelona, his 13th.
The Godfathers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Torch going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old right fielder Juan Esteban Santángel came to the plate. Santángel hit a solo home run on a 1-0 forkball from Pontiac hurler Dave Parkinson. It was Santángel's 1st home run of the year.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Santángel.
Mancelona is now 37-37, while Pontiac is 27-47.
