Hawks Throttle Generals, 7-1
|
The Laredo Hawks relied on the hitting of second baseman Tim Thompson to stop the Washington Generals, 7-1. For the game, Thompson was 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Laredo reliever Norm Wells was the winner. His record is now 5-3. The losing pitcher was Augusto Prats. Laredo has now won 3 straight, while the Generals have lost 3 in a row.
The Generals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Hawks going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old shortstop Steve Turner came to the plate. Turner hit a 2-run double on a first pitch cutter from Washington hurler Augusto Prats. It was Turner's 14th double of the year.
"We looked pretty good up and down," said Laredo manager Leonardo Sánchez.
