Tennessee Topples Belleville, 4-2
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Tennessee Smokies got the win.
Tennessee pitcher Omar Bongo did his part in helping his team beat the Belleville Bulls, 4-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Tennessee reliever Alfredo Rincón was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Wayne Daugherty took the loss. Martín Colón got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Tennessee took a 4-2 lead on Darrell MacGregor's 89th hit of the season. The 2-run single, which MacGregor hit in the top of the ninth, left Belleville pitcher Tony Cowan shaking his head.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Tennessee skipper Edward Whipp. "I can't complain."
The third-place Smokies raised their record to 38-29.
