Multi-HR Day for McLean as Hawks Overpower Generals, 7-2
|
The Laredo Hawks beat the Washington Generals, 7-2, at Hawks Field. The Hawks got a fine performance from designated hitter George McLean, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Laredo reliever Norm Wells was the winner. His record is now 4-3. Bill Slaughter took the loss. Laredo has now won 3 straight, while the Generals have lost 3 in a row.
McLean came through with some timely hitting for Laredo. With the score 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth and two down, McLean hit a first pitch fastball for a 3-run home run. His 4th home run of the season made it 7-1, Laredo.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," McLean told the Laredo Daily News.
